State Democratic Party Chair John Zody, Democratic Candidate for State Auditor Mike Claytor, and Secretary of State Candidate Beth White met with voters this afternoon at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. They talked about tax reform and improving the climate for small businesses.
Claytor says small businesses spend a disproportionate amount of income on taxes compared to corporations.
White says she wants to expand the business services division of the secretary of state's office, so entrepreneurs have easier access to information and business resources.
"I think it's ridiculous to penalize small businesses in their tax rate," said Claytor, "when economists generally agree that small businesses are the real job creators in our economy."
"You want to be able to look up and find out all kinds of other information," said White, "and that way you can utilize that information for your benefit. And those are the things we need to do, and we need to do better. I talk to a lot of people in the state of Indiana who use the business services website, and they tell me it's not very user friendly."
Democratic State Representative Candidate Steve Melcher also spoke at the event. He talked about improving opportunities for veterans and small business owners.
