An Earlington woman will spend the next 20 years in prison for the death of her step-son.

This morning, Kelley Kirby appeared in Hopkins Circuit Court and was sentenced to 20 years to the Kentucky Department of Corrections for second degree manslaughter and first degree criminal abuse.

A jury convicted Kirby of not only beating her 4-year-old step-son with an instrument in 2011, which caused deep bruising on his body, but also for punishing the child and hitting him in the head in 2012. He died from those injuries.

Investigators say Kirby originally told them the child fell, but they say the injuries were not consistent with a Fall.
