Koch Parks Purchases Alabama Waterpark

The Koch family of Holiday World fame buys a water park, and it's no where near Santa Claus, Indiana.
The Koch family of Holiday World fame buys a water park, and it's no where near Santa Claus, Indiana.

The announcement was posted tonight on the website of Alabama's Splash Adventure Waterpark, which is located in Bessemer. That's near Birmingham. They say they plan to reopen it this Summer.
A picture of Dan Koch and his sister, Natalie, is on the website, which reads "Now Family Owned and Operated. Opening 2014."

Their Facebook page says "Dan is bringing his family's seven decades of experience in the amusement and water park industry to his new home in Alabama."

Koch Parks Inc. says it has purchased the water park with 89 acres of land for future expansion. The park's previous owner, General Attractions, LLC., will retain 150 acres surrounding the park for future development. The Koch family says it will operate the park with a special focus on providing safe, family fun for all ages, and plans to add new attractions.

You may remember a family feud was put out in the open over the ownership of Holiday World in Santa Claus. Holiday World Park President Matt Eckert took over for Dan Koch, who stepped down in 2012.

The koch family was locked in a court battle over ownership of the park following the death of former park president, Will Koch. Lori Koch, the widow of Will Koch, owns 60 percent of the park, while Dan Koch owns 40 percent.

Holiday World says it is not involved in or connected to the purchase of the park in Alabama. Holiday World officials say they wish them "a safe and successful future."
