Some local students received a great present to kick off their summer.

More than 200 elementary and middle school students in the Ivy Tech Community College Public Safety Academy received a new bicycle, helmet, and bicycle lock.

Two adaptive bikes specifically designed for children with special needs were also given away.

Students were awarded based on good attendance, behavior, and attitude while participating in the public safety academy.

Ivy Tech Chancellor Jonathan Weinzapfel says, "These are the ones who are awarded a bike. It's positive reinforcement for the good work that they are doing with the 21st Century scholars program and hopefully it encourages them to continue to exceed expectations."

This is the 9th year for the giveaway.
