Investigators say Higens has served as president and treasurer of the Hopkins County Central All-American Basketball Association over the last few years and was in charge of the league's account. After being contacted by the Hopkins County Attorney's Office, investigators say they found suspicious financial activity for the years of 2011, 2012, and 2013. They reportedly found several improper expenditures made from the non-profit's checking account, including clothes, toys, gourmet food, diet pills and other items that would not have been used for the operation of the youth league.
KSP says the account was under the exclusive control of Higens and that she was the sole signatory of the checking account.
Higens was booked into the Hopkins County Jail Wednesday evening.
