Damon Maffett is behind bars after a 'shots fired' report on the south side of Evansville around 3:00am.
When officers arrived on the scene they found Damon Maffett running down the 700 block of Madison St.. K-9 and EPD set up a perimeter and they caught Maffett on the 700 block of Monroe. He was found with a white crystal powder in baggies. Later, field tests showed the powder was not a controlled substance.
However, a K-9 unit re-traced his steps and located the suspected gun that was being fired.
He is being charged with dealing a look-alike substance, firearms charges, and resisting arrest. He is currently being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
