New Ivy Tech Program Aimed at Training Workforce for Manufacturing Jobs

Ivy Tech's Advanced Automation and Robotics Technology Program will have students attending classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Then they will work at a paid part time internship at a local company for two days per week. In 24 months, students can graduate with an AAS degree and have received real world experience that will help them find a good paying job.
Festo Modular Production System is a scaled down copy of an automated manufacturing line. It uses standard industrial PLCs (computers that run manufacturing systems), sensors, valves and relays. This Modular Production System is used in Ivy Tech classes to allow students to program the PLCs, hook up sensors, and control all of the conveyors, and solenoids just like they would do in a real factory.

The Advanced Automation and Robotics Technology Program is unique in that students will attend classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Then they will work at a paid part time internship at a local company for two days per week. In 24 months, students can graduate with an AAS degree and have received real world experience that will help them find a good paying job. Ivy Tech is looking for manufacturers, hospitals, or any company needing technicians in our area to join the program and hire an intern. This would give a company 24 months to watch an intern and see if they want to offer them full time employment upon graduation. By managing their finances wisely, students can graduate with no student loan debt.

The Evansville Ivy Tech campus has received a grant to provide scholarships to 30 students that enter the Advanced Automation and Robotics Technology. This scholarship will pay 50% of their tuition, books, and fees. There are no grade point requirements for this scholarship.
