New Princeton Pool To Make End Of Summer Splash

Princeton is building a brand new multimillion dollar swimming pool, and construction is almost complete.

Splashing into summer is put on hold for families in Princeton, Indiana because the city is building a brand new multimillion dollar swimming pool.

"Kids are bummed out because its not open." The summer swimming spot in Princeton, Indiana is currently all dried up.

Kids like Sarah Meyer find some summertime alternatives. "Most of the time I'm just at my house or here," says Meyer.

A new pool is on the way and still under construction. The more than three-million dollar project brings a new kiddy park, slides, concession stands, and surveillance system.

"I will want to go there immediately." Meyer says the wait will be well worth it in the end.

"There's no substitute for the pool," says Mayor Bob Hurst. Hurst says the wait could soon be over.

"I'm hoping to shoot for the end of July, maybe the third week of July so we can have it open for a couple of weeks. That will kind of wet everybody's appetite for next year," says Hurst.

Hurst says construction started last fall, but severe winter weather and rain set the project back.

He says the city would like to keep the new pool open after school starts, on weekends and evenings, to give kids the chance to enjoy the water while the weather is still warm.

"It's like the field of dreams. You build it and hopefully they will come. That's one of the philosophies we had," says Hurst.

The old pool was built in the fifties. Hurst says it's a summertime staple he's proud to bring back new and improved.
