The city of Owensboro welcomes new artwork to the riverfront. City officials gathered at McConnell Plaza today to unveil a sculpture that will call the Ohio River home.

Mayor Ron Payne says they wanted to bring dimension to downtown and hope today's piece will be the first of many across the city.

The sculpture was made by an artist in Alabama and will be on lease in Owensboro for the next two years.

"Young people, and people throughout this community, throughout the Tri-State, that come here and visit this riverfront," said Mayor Payne, "they are going to be able to come here and walk around and see all of these various types of sculptures."

Mayor Payne says the city hopes to continue placing artwork throughout Owensboro.
