Update: Third Person Confirmed Dead in New York Explosion

Firefighters are on scene of an explosion and the collapse of two buildings in New York City.
UPDATE (6:20 P.M.): Authorities confirm a third person has died in the explosion and collapse of two buildings in New York City. At least 10 people are also missing at this time.

A gas leak is believe to have triggered the blast.

Firefighters are on scene of an explosion and the collapse of two buildings in New York City. At least two people are confirmed dead, and more than a dozen are injured. It happened on 116th St. and Park Ave. in Manhattan's east Harlem.

Neighbors called a gas and electric company, saying they smelled gas shortly before the blast. 39 fire departments units, 168 firefighters, and the bomb squard responded to the deadly blast.

The identifies of the two women who died were not available. A number of people were missing. Firefighters say two of the survivors suffered life-threatening injuries. More fatalities are expected.
