A man is in the hospital after being shot by an Evansville police officer.

According to EPD, the incident began just after 11 p.m. Friday when a different officer tried to pull a car over driving without headlights. But, instead of stopping, the car got onto the Lloyd Expressway and attempted to evade law enforcement by driving 100 mph.

EPD said the driver then took the Green River Road exit where the officer eventually lost sight of the car. An assisting officer arrived in the area and found the car at HomeLife Studios and Suites. Sgt. Jason Cullum said the officer shot the suspect once after a brief verbal exchange.

Cullum said the suspect is still in the hospital.

He said EPD is waiting to release more details until they are able to speak with the suspect and have a formal statement from the officer involved.
