Officials Approve Pedestrian Overpass over the Lloyd

Construction of a planned overpass on the Lloyd Expressway could start next year.
Construction of a planned overpass on the Lloyd Expressway could start next year. The Board of Public Works approves a project agreement for construction this afternoon.

The overpass at the intersection of the Lloyd Expressway and Vann Ave. ran into problems last year after a small, century old cemetery was found at the site. The remains were moved to Oak Hill Cemetery this past Spring.

"It also promotes safety of pedestrians," said Evansville Assistant City Engineer Cris Cottom. "They won't have to risk crossing the Lloyd on foot, and it is also going to help traffic on the Lloyd Expressway because they can now re-time the signals."

City engineers say the project will go out for bidding this Fall.
