Webster County school officials cut the ribbon to its first ever middle school this evening. It's located next to the high school in Dixon. The building used to be part of the high school before closing for several years after suffering damage.

Webster County has typically had grade schools going from K-8. But officials say the middle school will help them more in the transition to high school.

They spend a lot of time their freshman year just getting students up and use to the switching classes and the different environments," said Webster Co. School Board Chairman Jeff Pettit. "So, I think this will help substantially in getting us down the road a little better with that aspect."

Webster County students are scheduled to go back this Thursday.
