Old Swanson Nunn Building Demolition Begins

The old laundromat and dry cleaner is finally coming down.
The bricks are starting to fall at the old Swanson Nunn building in downtown Evansville.

Demolition is now underway at the site that once housed dangerous fumes.

The building has been standing since 1930 - it once housed a dry cleaner and laundromat.

Officials believe that's what initially contaminated the site.

A few years ago, a nearby daycare had to shut down because of the toxic vapors and abestos.

Officials say all contaminants were removed from the building last year so there are no health risks.

The city says debris removal, backfilling, grading and seeding the lot should wrap up by April 8th.
But it will take years to get into the soil and remove contaminants underground.
