More people are choosing to fly out of the Owensboro Daviess County Airport, and the feds are taking notice. It received $1 million federal grant.

Part of that money funds improvements to the terminal, which were made a year and a half ago. It pays to move the beacon light to a new site, which will make it more visible.

This grant money reimburses the airport 90 percent of what it paid for these projects.

"The million dollars is something we will earn every year as long as we surpassed 10,000 paid boardings," said Bob Whitmore. "And we've done that. This is the fourth consecutive year that we have surpassed that."

The airport and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will each pay more than $50,000 for renovation and beacon relocation.
