Some of Owensboro's rising leaders are spending the afternoon in jail. It's part of Emerge Owensboro's Crimes, Drugs, and Jail Day.

More than 20 people toured the Daviess County Detention Center and met with inmates about their experiences. The focus of the trip is to learn about community problems and what causes them.

"It connects back to our education," said Amy Jackson of Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce. "It connects back to our human needs and services in our community, and what the cycle is. We're trying how we can change our community, so that they won't have the population they have here at the Daviess County Detention Center that they have now."

Jailer David Osborne also spoke with members about how the jail budgets itself and what issues they face.
