Owensboro Residents Speak Out on Proposed Smoking Ban

The debate over the city of Owensboro's proposed public smoking ordinance is heating up.
The debate over the city of Owensboro's proposed public smoking ordinance is heating up. Several supporters and opponents spoke at tonight's city commission meeting.

City commissioners took comment after a first reading on the ordinance. If approved, it would ban smoking in all public places and on sidewalks close to outdoor restaurants.

"I don't have a problem not smoking where kids go," said Roxanne Sparks. "I have no problem whatsoever. But where adults are, you make a choice for it. If want to go in there, knowing there is smoking, then go. If you don't, then go to someplace else that does not smoke."

A vote on the public smoking ban could happen as soon as the next city commission meeting later this month.
