Philip Lawrence Reflects on Super Bowl Halftime Performance

It's a stage most musicians can only dream about. And an Evansville native is now apart of a very small club.

Philip Lawrence was performing to the right of Bruno Mars at MetLife Stadium at the show-stopping performance at the Super Bowl. Lawrence is a Memorial High School grad.

He helps write music with Bruno Mars. He says getting to perform on the grandest stage of all was like being on "Cloud 9."

"It's such a surreal experience," said Lawrence. "Even just the simple fact that we were asked to be apart of such an amazing stage. All the world over, people's eyes are on you. So, it was such an honor to be included in that experience and to have been on stage performing. It's still surreal. I think it may sink in like years from now what actually really happened."

Lawrence says he has been encouraged by the positive response after the performance.

"We have been getting amazing feedback," said Lawrence. "It's hard to accept feedback when you're the one receiving it. But from reading the publications and articles, it seems like people took to what we were doing. And that's something I'm really proud of. What we set out to do this year, we always hold close to us the idea that we had compromised what it is that we do."

Lawrence says having his family with him made the entire experience more rewarding.

"And I could look up and see the box that my family was sitting in and watching the game from," said Lawrence. "Still it was an expiring experience. I don't think it's going to wear off for a very long time."

Billboard reports sales of Bruno Mars' album "Unorthodox Jukebox" are up 164 percent since the halftime performance.

Not only that, the day after the Super Bowl, tickets to Mars' tour went on sale and sold out. Lawrence says it will be a busy but exciting year ahead.
