Plans Unveiled For First Christian Church In Owensboro

The design calls for a cross-shaped, two story building.

Members of First Christian Church in Owensboro got a look at the plans for their new church Sunday.

The design calls for a cross-shaped, two story building. Stuart Gant, leader of the church group who worked with the architectural firm, said the design preserves the look and feel of the old church while making some changes. He said wooden beams and stained glass windows are a part of the new design, but there will be no more pews.

Gant says the entire project should cost about seven million dollars. He said the money will come from the insurance settlement.

The church burned down in March 2013 after it was struck by lightening. Members have been meeting at other churches around Owensboro since then.

Gant expects crews to break ground next Febuary. He hopes the church will be open by Easter 2016.
