Protestors Raise their Voices on Illegal Immigration

As thousands of illegal immigrants continue to make their way into the United States, groups all across the nation are taking a stand during today's National Day of Protesting Against Immigration. That includes a protest in Evansville.

From the Federal Courthouse in downtown Evansville, a small group is speaking out against illegal immigration at the U.S. Mexico border.

"Granted, everybody wants to come here," said Brenda Bergwitz. "But the rate that they're coming, it's inexcusable. We need to close the border. There's no excuse for it not to be closed and do it the right way."

Bergwitz says her biggest concern of an open border isn't necessarily about our neighbors to the south seeking a better life. It's instead, those looking to harm America.

"Look what happened yesterday with the plane being shot down," said Bergwitz, "and everything that's happening over in Israel. But yes, it's going to be open up for terrorists. I mean that's the best way they can get in."

Although today's protest at the courthouse may not be in record numbers, Bergwitz says she and others are still proud to exercise their rights.

"We the people, if we don't get off our behinds and do something like we're going to be doing throughout today," said Bergwitz. "Let our voices be heard."
