Ryan Braschler

Weekend Sports Anchor, Sports Reporter

Ryan joined the Eyewitness News team in September 2011 as a news reporter/multimedia journalist before moving to the Sports Department about a year later.  There were also a few months anchoring the weekend news mixed into the journey. He graduated from West Virginia University in May 2011 with degrees in Journalism and Communications.

Ryan is a sports fanatic. What was his first Christmas gift? It was a toy sports set. He views the sporting world as a microcosm of the American life. The drama, passion and adversities in the world of sports emulate so many of the daily battles human beings face.  The stories of hard work and overcoming hard times can be, and often are, inspirational not just to fellow fans, but to those whose interests lie far from the sporting culture.  Young people throughout the Tri-State play for the love of the game.  Ryan works for the love of the job.  Watching athletes grow and learn from experiences in which they may have failed in the past, but now conquer things they never thought possible is the most rewarding aspect.

He was born and raised in Murfreesboro, TN.  At age 11 he and his family moved to Charleston, WV where he played baseball through high school, making the WVHSA All-State team as an honorable mention in 2010.  After graduation he moved on to WVU.

As a member of the WVU News team, Ryan was the campus reporter and was featured on multiple award winning newscasts. He reported on and was featured in an episode recognized by the Broadcast Educator's Association as the nation's best college newscast. In the Fall of 2010, he was a bureau reporter for KDKA-Pittsburgh and WVPBS.

Outside of work Ryan is an avid golfer, a lifelong fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers and a food enthusiast. He enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching movies and cooking.
