Scam Alert: IRS Phone Calls

A Scam Alert from the Kentucky Attorney Generals office is advising folks to use caution when contacted by anyone who claims to be with the I.R.S.
A scam alert from the Kentucky Attorney General's Office; Officials are advising folks to use caution when contacted by anyone who claims to be with the IRS. Attorney General Jack Conway says if someone calls and threatens to take legal action it's probably not the IRS. Conway also says when the IRS first contacts a taxpayer it does so by mail and not by phone. Scammers may also ask for payment by prepaid debit card or wire transfer but, the IRS won't ask for either of those payment methods . Folks are asked to call their local authorities if they suspect the scam.
