'She Says Yes' After Bold Billboard Prom Proposal

A high school student's bold prom proposal turns heads at one of the Evansville's busiest intersections. But, in the end, it caught the attention of the most important person.

Through the grid-like power lines at Lincoln Ave. and Green River Rd., there is something bold, bright and just big enough for Chase Brown.

"It was about the biggest thing I could think of besides renting a plane," Brown said.

Behind him sits a billboard made of LED lights but last weekend it featured a message made out of L-O-V-E.

"I knew from the beginning that she wanted something big and, well, she got it," Brown said.

She sure did.

Over the weekend, Brown rented a Lamar Advertising billboard to pose a simple question to his girlfriend Emily Arabia, a fellow junior at Memorial High School. Brown asked her to go to prom and it was a question she answered emphatically.

The two high school juniors have been together for almost six months but Brown had been planning the bold prom proposition for the past three.

His friends knew. Her friends knew. Their parents all knew. She did not.

"I never thought in a million years that he would do something so out there and with our names on it," Arabia said. "I was thinking something in my driveway or something in front of my friends and not in front of all of Evansville."

"I'm not shy I just don't like the attention drawn to me," Brown said. "I just don't like to be pointed out but it wasn't that big of a deal."

The two will go to prom in late April.
