Sheriff's Office Rules Fatal Fire a Homicide in Hanson, KY

Hopkins County Sheriff's Office says 51-year-old James Simmons was found in his home with a bullet wound to the head.
A fire at a mobile home sparks a murder investigation in Hopkins County.

The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office responded to a request for assistance from the Hanson Volunteer Fire Department in reference to a fatal fire. The victim was identified as James Simmons who lived at the residence.
   
The KY State Fire Marshall's Office responded to assist in the fire investigation. Preliminary findings lead authorities to believe the fire was of a suspicious nature. An autopsy conducted by the state medical examiner's office in Madisonville, KY revealed a small caliber bullet wound at the base of the victim's skull.
   
Through the investigation a suspect has been developed and the investigation is on-going.
