Evansville police are investigating a shots fired call that happened right across the street from a daycare.
It happened in the 700 block of SE 8th street a little after 6:00am.
Police say about 5 young males approached the victim, Vincent Crews, as he left his apartment.
Officers say one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and fired. Crews pulled his own gun and fired back.
Crews then went back into the apartment and then police say Damion Gibson retrieved a gun and went back outside with Crews. Both men returned fire towards the shooter.
Police say about 10 to 12 shots were exchanged and as of this time there have been no reports of anyone being hit.
Crews and Gibson had personal protection permits to carry a weapon.
Police issued Crews a misdemeanor citation for having marijuana under 30 grams.
Although no kids were outside at the time of the shooting, it happened right across the street from Kindergate Developmental Child Care Center.
If anyone has information about the suspected shooter, they can call the Evansville Police Department at 436-7979 or the WeTip line at 1-800-78-CRIME.
