Some School Corporations Support Delayed ISTEP Testing

There is a proposal in Indianapolis to push back the date of ISTEP testing because of the prolonged winter weather plaguing almost the entire state. It has forced school corporations to cancel classes more than usual.

Representatives from the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation and Warrick County School Corporation said they would welcome a few extra days to prepare for the test.

Brad Schneider, superintendent of the Warrick County School Corporation, said teachers know a lot is riding on the tests because part of their evaluation is based on the results.

“I know they want to get as many standards covered and topics presented as quickly possible,” Schneider said. “In a normal year they would have that covered.”

Marsha Jackson, chief communications officer for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, said the corporation supports the delay, but worries it would push back test score results that help determine where to place students.
