The FTC says the carrier cashed in big by hitting customers with hundreds of millions of dollars in bogus charges over the past several years.

The charges were from third-party merchants offering text message subscriptions for things like flirting tips, horoscopes, and celebrity gossip.

Those charges frequently were not authorized by customers, and as many as 40 percent of those customers asked for refunds.
