Officials with the University of Evansville are making sure freshman students are kicking off a new school year on the  right foot.

Students in the class of 2018 were at this morning's academic convocation at UE's Carson Center. The convocation gave students an opportunity to hear from university representatives and talk with orientation leaders.

One official we spoke with says it's just a great way for new students to start their college career.

"This has been well received by our students," said Vice President of Enrollment Services Shane Davidson, "not only this class that's coming in but the classes that came before them. It's something that they look forward to, that their orientation leaders talk with them about their experience when they were a new student."

The first day of classes will be tomorrow. Davidson says this year's new student enrollment numbers look really good. He says there are more than 500 freshman students plus 100 transfer students attending UE this year.
