16-Year-Old Indentified in Fatal Owensboro Crash

A teen has been identified in the car crash in Owensboro where a car apparently left the road and flipped.


Owensboro Police say 16 year-old Michael Widmer died from his injuries.
The crash happened just after 4:00pm, Thursday,  on the Martin Luther King Junior loop,between Frederica and Theater Way.
Police say a car left the road and flipped into a cornfield.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

UPDATE: Martin Luther King Jr. Loop is now back open to traffic.

OPD tells Eyewitness News the coroner's office may not release the name of the victim until sometime tomorrow.

Owensboro Police report a road will be closed for the next two to three hours after being called to a deadly accident.

Officers were called just after 4 p.m. to the Martin Luther King Jr. Loop. The road is now closed from Frederica St. to Theater Way.

OPD says one car was involved in the accident , and one person is confirmed dead but has yet to be identified. The coroner has been called to the scene.

No word yet on what caused the crash. We'll continue to bring you updates.
