UPDATE: Woman Rescued after Trying to Swim Across Ohio River

A Henderson woman is pulled from the Ohio River today in Newburgh.
A Henderson woman is pulled from the Ohio River today in Newburgh. Indiana State Police say the 46-year-old woman was found near the Old Lock and Dam in Newburgh.

ISP Sgt. Todd Ringle reports a Boonville teen was the first to jump into the river to rescue the woman. Officials say several people were able to get her out of the water.

The woman was treated on scene by EMS and is expected to be fine. Officials have not released her name nor why she was in the river.


ISP Sgt. Todd Ringle tells Eyewitness News the 46-year-old woman tried to swim across the Ohio River from Henderson to Newburgh.

Sgt. Ringle says at some point during the swim, the woman appeared to be struggling. Members of the Newburgh Police Department, Newburgh Fire Department, and several eyewitnesses went into the water to help her. They reportedly swam 50 to 75 yards to help her.

She made it to the Newburgh side. That's where Newburgh Police arrested her for being intoxicated. Still no word on the woman's identity.
