Southern Indiana cruised to a seven-run win in the first round of the GLVC Tournament.
The University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles breezed through the first round of the GLVC Tournament as #1 seeds are expected to do. Sophomore Kyle Kempf continued his torrid pace at the plate with three of USI's nine hits on the day.
The Eagles started slowly but held a four-run lead going into the top of the seventh inning. Illinois-Springfield made things interested in the frame, tying the game with four runs of its own. But USI poured on five runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the bottom of the eighth to pull away from the Prairie Stars in the end.
USI advances to play Quincy in round two Friday morning.
