VCSO Sergeant Resigns Amid Investigation

Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding confirms a Sheriff's Sergeant tendered his resignation after the announcement of a termination hearing.
Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding confirms Sgt. Darren Baumberger has offered his resignation from the Sheriff's Department after allegations of conduct violations surfaced.

Effective immediately Darren Baumberger is no longer an employee of the Sheriff’s Office and has no law enforcement authority. 

As a result of the resignation, a Merit Board hearing scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2014 will not take place.


Sheriff Dave Wedding is seeking dismissal of Sgt. Darren Baumberger from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office, the investigation into Sgt. Baumberger’s behavior reveals possible criminal behavior on his part.

The Sheriff's office is also looking into unrelated incidents while seeking Sgt. Baumberger’s dismissal.

On June 05, Sheriff Wedding met with ISP investigators to tell them about criminal allegations involving Sgt. Baumberger.
The Indiana State Police agreed to investigate.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff Merit Board will hold a public hearing at the Civic Center to discuss the charges on  June 30 at 9:00 a.m.
