Vectren Starting Modernization of 11-Mile Gas Line

Work is underway on improvements to a natural gas station in Evansville's west side.
A major project to update some of the gas pipelines on Evansville's west side.

It's a $7 million project that stretches for 11 miles through northern and western Vanderburgh county. Work is underway at one natural gas station just off of new harmony road.

Vectren offiicals say the workers are replacing existing lines to allow inspectors better access to check the 60 year old natural gas line.  The line runs from the Kassen Station to the Old Boonville Highway Station on the city's east side.  Inspectors will be using a computer aided device tool that will look for hidden problems.

"This tool will be looking for any sort of abnormalities with the line. Cracks, corrosion, and make sure that we can make very timely repairs in event that we would need to for anything that would be detected," says Natalie Hedde of Vectren.

Vectren officials say this phase will be done in the next four weeks. The whole project will be done by the end of the year.
