Walnut Street in Evansville is under construction and it appears it will stay that way for a while. The city is relocating a water line there in preparation for the Highway 41-Lloyd Expressway cloverleaf.

It's a major $3.4 million project that entails relocating 7400 feet of water line. The water line is a massive pipe that's around 24-inches in diameter. Crews are having to place it about 17-feet underneath the roadway.

Allen Mounts, director of the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility, says the project is running behind schedule. It's now expected to wrap-up closer to August.

"Everybody loves it when it's all finished but during the construction period it's a little painful," says Mounts. "Particularly with the residents who live around here. The noise, the dust, it's gonna be here for a while."

Mounts says an added benefit of the new water line is that it will likely improve water pressure on the east side. After the water line is relocated, the utility will have several smaller projects which will cause more construction as there are several sewer lines that also need relocated.
