Here's what you need to know for Monday, Aug.11th

Classes Start Back in the EVSC

Students in Evansville start back to school tomorrow, which means you can expect to see those school zone lights flashing once again.
The Indiana State Police want to remind you of a few things:
  • Slow down in school zones
  • Don't be distracted - stay off your cell phone
  • Expect delays around school areas
  • Keep an eye out for students walking to and from school.
Troopers also want to remind drivers that if you're behind a school bus, you are required by law, to stop when the bus' red lights are flashing.

Lane Restrictions Continue on the Twin Bridges

After a detailed inspection of the northbound side of the twin bridges, crews shift their attention to the southbound side this week.

Starting tomorrow morning, there will be lane restrictions on the southbound side of the twin bridges starting from 9:00AM to 3:30PM.
   
Transporation officials say motorists should be prepared to encounter some delays. The inspection is expected to wrap-up at the end of the week.

Nightly Construction on the Lloyd Expwy Begins

Starting tomorrow night, the Lloyd Expressway from Main Street to Martin Luther King Boulevard will be down to one lane in each direction while crews work on repairs on the bridge joint.

Work is expected to take four days to complete.

The lane restrictions will go from 7:00pm to 5:00AM each night.

Evansville City Council Meeting

Evansville City Council members will have to get to business tommorow evening as it will likely be jam-packed agenda.

Among a series of other topics, the council is expected to consider amending city code to reflect new standards regarding lead poisoning.
They're also slated to hear updates on the Smart City 2.0 and downtown convention hotel projects.
Venuworks is also scheduled to present an update on Ford Center.

It's unknown if the council will address third ward councilwoman, Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley's recent admission to struggling with alcohol abuse.

McConnell Will Be In Owensboro, Henderson

Senator Mitch McConnell is scheduled to make at least two appearances in Western Kentucky tommorrow.

The Senate Minority Leader is slated to host a town hall meeting at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital at 3:00PM where he's expected to talk to employees about their experiences with the affordable care act.

Sen. McConnell is then scheduled to head to Henderson for a public appearance at the county Republican Party's new permanent headquarters.
The grand opening event starts at 5:00PM.
