Downtown Owensboro Roads Changed to Two-Way Traffic

Some of the one-way streets downtown are now open to two-way traffic.
Some of the one-way streets downtown are now open to two-way traffic. City crews began transforming both Locust St. and Walnut St.,  between 2nd St. and 5th St., into two-way streets this morning. The Public Works Department studied traffic patterns a few years ago and suggested the changes. Director Wayne Shelton says while it may take some getting used to, the two-way changes come at a good time with more people flocking downtown.

"When you mix that in," said Shelton, "with a new convention center, a new hotel, a second hotel in a close proximity of each other, it's changed the traffic flow."

It only took crews a couple of hours to make the changes. No problems reported so far.
