We have a statement from the Evansville Police Department regarding the alleged incident involving an off-duty Evansville firefighter.

The Evansville Police Department has opened an internal investigation into the actions of two officers involved in a bicyclist stop on Tuesday, August 14th. The stop involved an off-duty Evansville Fire Department Firefighter.

The firefighter involved in the incident has spoken directly to Chief Bolin and has requested an investigation be conducted by the Internal Affairs Unit. That investigation began this morning.

In order to preserve the integrity of the investigation and to ensure fairness for all of the involved parties, the EPD will not comment on the incident at this time.

The Evansville Police Department and the Evansville Fire Department have a long standing tradition of working together to provide professional services to the citizens of Evansville. We are confident that the tradition will continue.
