Evansville Residents Pray for the New Year

While many people plan their resolutions for the new year, others take the time to pray.
While many people plan their resolutions for the new year, others take the time to pray.

An annual candle light prayer vigil was held tonight at the federal building in downtown Evansville. More than a dozen people gathered to pray for the leaders of the city, state, and federal governments.

Brenda Bergwitz served in the Marine Corps and organized tonight's vigil.

"We've got a beautiful country," said Bergwitz. "America's the land of the free, and we want to keep it that way. But people have got to realize we have got to pray that we all come together as one regardless of what party we are. Whether we are Democrats, Republicans, or Independents, we've got to come together and love each other as god loves us."

This is the fifth prayer vigil for new year's eve in downtown Evansville.
