An Evansville police officer who was fired last month by the Police Merit Board is now suing for his job back. Mike Winters was a Corporal with Evansville Police when he was accused of inappropriately touching an EVSC student on a school security detail. EPD Chief Billy Bolin recommended he be discharged and the merit board agreed. Friday, Winters filed a lawsuit against the city saying the merit board's decision was without substantial evidence to support its decision. Winters explained he only touched the student's clothing and the boy was not injured and alleges winters was treated differently by the department than other officers. The city has not responded to the lawsuit.
