One of the Tri-State's biggest transportation projects could be getting some help in Frankfort.

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear's proposing more than $160 million for upgrades on the I-69 corridor. It's one of nine projects on his recommended highway plan.

The money would help pay for upgrades on the Pennyrile Parkway and several exits.

"It'd enable Kentucky to have a third north-south interstate highway through the state," said I-69 advocate Bill Corum. "We have I-75, I-65, and now, if we can finish the existing upgrades to our parkway, we can have a third north-south interstate highway."

But to pay for it, it would involve reversing the 1.5 cent per gallon tax decrease that went into effect on New Year's Day.
