A water line broke in the basement of Haubstadt Community School this morning. More than 300 kids were sent home for the day.
Principal John Obermeier says maintenance workers were doing a routine check of the basement when they saw the leak. Water was quickly covering the floor. He says the line that broke supplies water to the entire school.
"Because it was such a significant break," said Obermeier, "the whole school would be without water for several hours while repairs were going on. So, we chose to dismiss the students."
Crews have been working to repair the break, but school officials still hope to have classes resume tomorrow.
