Henderson Shooting Victim Charged With False Reporting

A Henderson woman who was shot over the weekend is now charged in the case.
A Henderson woman who was shot over the weekend is now charged in the case.

24-year-old Crista Avery told police she was shot while walking in the 1400 block of Green Street on Sunday.  She said the shot was fired by someone driving a green Pontiac Grand Prix.

Police, however, say her story was inconsistent with the the version told by her fiance, Phillip Riley.  Officers say their investigation revealed Avery had not been the victim of a drive-by shooting.  Instead, they say she and Riley were arguing over a gun, and when she tried to take it away from Riley, it went off.

Avery was not seriously wounded, and is now out of the hospital.  Both she and Riley now face charges of false reporting.  Avery faces an additional charge of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.  Riley faces additional charges of wanton endangerment and tampering with physical evidence because police say he hid the weapon after Avery called 911.
