It happened at Henderson County High School. The district won't reveal the employee's position at the school or explain exactly what happened.
It released a statement, saying "the altercation demonstrated aggression of the student to the employee and the employee to the student."
Eyewitness News talked with a student outside the school who identified himself as a cousin of the suspended student. Since the student we talked with is underage, we're not showing his face or giving his name. But here's what he told us happened:
"He was messing around in class, and the teacher was trying to take a picture of him for that. And he smacked the phone out of the teacher's hand. Then the teacher got mad and hit him in the face."
Both the student and the employee were suspended, but the district won't say for how long.
