Operation "Hot Mess" will start early next month. It's a competition among all of the EVSC's high schools to see which school can recruit the most people to pick up the most trash.
New this year, a traveling trash can trophy that will be featured at the winning schools. It's a trophy one New Tech Insititute Senior hopes to hang on to.
"It looks good for us to have a healthy environment to live," said New Tech Senior Shelby DeMoss. "So, if there is bunch of trash everywhere, it doesn't look right. So, I know I care, and it's just cool to see that all my friends, and even teachers, adults, family members care about the environment."
"Nobody wants to see a trashy neighborhood," said Senior Brehlyn Calhoun. "It gives the neighborhood a bad name like it makes it seem like a bad environment. It's really not."
The clean up will take place on October 5, on the west side near Cedar Hall Community school and the Helfrich Park STEM Academy.
