A family of seven, including four children, was inside the Dale home when flames broke out. They all got out safely, although some were without coats and shoes.
A family member spotted the fire in a front downstairs bedroom shortly before 6 a.m. The sub-zero wind chill forced the three crews on scene to fight the fire in shifts to avoid frostbite.
The house is one of the oldest in town. It is said that Tom Lincoln, the president's father, helped build it before his family moved to Illinois in 1830.
