Hopkins County Shooting Death

Shooting kills Hopkins County man.


    The Hopkins County Sheriff's Department says the man shot and killed Sunday night near the community of St Charles was apparently trying to break in to another person's home. 

     Deputies say they received a call from Kevin Hoffman claiming he had just shot an intruder in his home.  When investigators got to the scene, they say they found Hoffman and the alleged intruder.  The intruder is identified as Tony Earl.  Detectives say Earl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hopkins county authorities are investigating the shooting death of a 40 year old man. The county coroner says Tony Earl died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. Earl was shot at a home in St. Charles last night.  Investigators have been on scene all morning. Eyewitness News will bring you updates online and on air when we get them.
