Hotel Groundbreaking Delayed

The Mayor's office says severe weather played a major role in the decision to delay breaking ground on Evansville's new downtown hotel.
The ground breaking for the new convention hotel in Evansville has been delayed.

The Mayor's office says severe weather played a major factor in the decision to delay the ground breaking by two weeks.

January 23rd was the original date set by the Redevelopment Commission.  Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says the cold weather isn't the only thing hindering progess.

"There's also some moorings from the previous parking garage that was there that were not all removed so that have had to redesign some of their foundation so that's also playing into that", Winnecke said.

The commission has yet to set another date for the groundbreaking.
