Governor Pat Quinn has announced that Illinois will be the first state to participate in a new program that coordinates public and private efforts to help veterans find work.
The "Get Skills to Work" coalition was created by General Electric, and is meant to prepare returning military service men and women for high-paying jobs in manufacturing.
"We want to make sure that all branches of service and all of our service members and veterans, when they come home, get a j-o-b. and a good job, a job you can support your family on. and our state has worked over and over again with great companies, especially our manufacturers -- because manufacturing is enjoying a great renaissance in our country and especially here in Illinois", Quinn said.
The coalition also includes some community colleges, which will locate employers who want to hire veterans.
