A proposal for a new preschool pilot program for lower income families is on to the Indiana Senate.

The bill, which passed easily in the House, will provide lower income families with school vouchers for high-quality preschools in the state.

The bill's author says this legislation is very important because right now, children of poverty start almost a year and a half behind their middle-income peers.

If passed in the Senate, the legislation will become law and take effect 2015.
