Legislation to allow industrial hemp in Indiana passes through a state Senate committee. The committee voted 7-0 in favor of the bill, which will now go to the Senate.
With federal approval the Department of Agriculture will have authority to license the cultivation and production of industrial hemp. Industrial hemp is used to make paper, clothing, building materials, and car parts.
The bill also would declassify industrial hemp as marijuana in Indiana.
